ADD/ADHD Characteristics
How is the Davis Autism Approach® different from other programs?
The program is developmental, rather than behavioral. Meaning, a person develops the underlying concept so that they can develop skills in many different areas, rather than drill one skill at a time. Clients will continue to progress after a program for the rest of their lives. This program doesn’t teach specific skills, but rather builds a framework upon which self-learning can be placed.
What can I expect to see after a program?
Because each individual will progress at a different rate and in different areas, it is impossible to give a set of specific outcomes. We have seen improvements in:
- Sustained attention
- Emotional regulation
- Motivation
- Socialization
- Independent problem solving
- Acceptance of change
- Meeting behavioral expectations
- Navigating Life’s Challenges more independently

How was this program developed?
Ron Davis was labeled a “Kanner’s Baby” before Dr. Kanner coined the term “autism.” Follow this link to learn more about his experience and the foundation for our work. (see Ron’s story- link)

Can we take a reading/writing or math program as well as the autism program?
We generally recommend that an autistic client takes the autism program prior to any other program with Rocky Point Academy. Once the autism program is complete, we find that it complements the reading/writing and math programs and that progress in these areas comes more quickly. (For more information on our other learning programs please visit us at www.rockypointacademy.com )
Can this program help someone without autism?
Yes, many people who do not have autism can use these strategies to overcome difficulties with social skills (such as making friends, manners, disorderliness, personal hygiene and initiating adult relationships). It can also help individuals explore and discover a renewed sense of self, which often results in a resolution of life-long stress-related issues.
How will the program affect the rest of the family?
We have found that, in many cases, the family benefits themselves from the concepts. These concepts are ‘life concepts’, so they can be integrated and explored throughout daily life, minimizing any disruption to family routines. One family took all of their children through the program and found it greatly reduced their daughter’s ADHD behaviours.
Rocky Point Academy is a BBB accredited business since 2002.
